Review and Evaluation of School Administrators

Dean

The evaluation of the school Dean typically takes place in the spring semester of the third year of the Dean’s term of four years, and is also conducted in consideration of a possible term extension. The Dean is evaluated by the Provost with the inclusion of the Dean’s self-assessment report and the input of school full-time faculty. Some of the criteria that are considered in evaluating the Dean’s performance include: leadership and interpersonal skills; integrity and ethics; public appearances and promotion of the school; faculty support and fairness in dealing with all constituents; relationship with the provost and other deans; relationship with other university constituents; and fundraising.

Associate and Assistant Deans

The evaluation of the Associate and Assistant Deans occurs annually. The Associate and Assistant Deans are evaluated by the Dean with the inclusion of the evaluation of teaching, research, service, administrative activities, and set goals and accomplishments. Select faculty may be asked to discuss any relevant aspects of the Associate and Assistant Deans’ performance. Some of the criteria that are considered in evaluating the Associate and Assistant Deans’ performance include: leadership; interpersonal skills; integrity and ethics; flexibility; multitasking; vision; relationship with other members and units of the school and university; and quality and timeliness of projects and initiatives.

Department Chairs

The evaluation of Department Chairs occurs annually. Department Chairs are evaluated by the Dean with the inclusion of the evaluation of teaching, research, service, administrative activities, and set goals and accomplishments. This is in addition to the input of department faculty who fill out an anonymous survey that follows specific criteria addressing: leadership, administrative and management effectiveness, and personal qualities.

Director of Experiential Education

The evaluation of the Director of Experiential Education occurs annually. The Director’s administrative role is evaluated by the Dean and incorporates the Director’s self-assessment, input of the Department Chair of Pharmacy Practice, and input of pharmacy practice faculty preceptors who fill out an anonymous survey that follows specific criteria addressing: leadership, administrative and management effectiveness, and personal qualities.

Residency Program Director

The evaluation of the Residency Program Director (RPD) occurs annually. The Director’s administrative role is evaluated by the Dean and incorporates the Director’s self-assessment, input of the Department Chair of Pharmacy Practice, and input of pharmacy practice faculty/preceptors who are involved in the residency program. Criteria address: leadership, administrative and management effectiveness, and personal qualities.
